Cyclone Swim School

The Cyclone Swim School Program
What makes our program unique is that we employ a method of teaching that enables students to progress at their own rate based upon skill attainment standards. We are unlike most traditional swim lesson programs that require a student to remain in a particular level for the duration of the session.  Our students are rewarded each time a new level is attained. All lessons are one-on-one meaning the focus is entirely on your child, this also allows the lesson to progress at their pace.

Participation Requirements
We will accept children that are at least 4 years old at the time of the lesson.  We expect our enrollees to be ready and willing to positively cooperate in our structured lesson setting. If you are in doubt of your child’s readiness to begin our program, we believe it is best to wait.

History of the School

Trip Hedrick, former Head Men's Swimming Coach at Iowa State, founded Cyclone Swim School in 1993; becoming the first learn to swim school business operating in Iowa. In the nearly 30 years since, Cyclone Swim School has enjoyed the privilege of providing swimming instruction to the children of more than 7,000+ families in Ames and the surrounding area.  Trip started the school with the intent of making the pool an aquatic classroom for all students and providing a fun, high energy academic infused approach to teaching swimming.  Since its inception, Trip was able to consistently staff the program with energetic individuals year after year that have dutifully remained committed to a proven curriculum and instructional methodology. In August of 2022 ownership of the progam shifted to Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club with all phases of the program remaining intact.

Your Investment in Swimming Lessons
We believe that your investment of both time and money in your child’s swimming should be a wise one. We also believe that at the completion of a lesson progression, your child should have as many options in aquatics as possible. Whether it be basic survival skills, lifelong aquatic comfort in recreational aquatic activities, a lifetime of productive aquatic fitness, or even possible participation in a competitive swimming program, your child should learn from those that can best accommodate these potential options. We are confident that our “goal oriented” program and motivational instructors provide your best value in your swimming investment.

Refund Policy
Due to our limited enrollment, only medical emergency situations will be considered for a refund less a $15 processing fee.  Any withdrawal from an enrolled class will be treated as a cancellation and is not refundable. Refunds will not be given for absence due to illness or other conflicts.

No Make-up Policy
We do not offer any make-ups for a student's lesson absence.  When an issue with the facility causes a lesson cancellation, every effort will be made to offer a make-up lesson.
